The Reason We Gather

"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near."  Hebrews 10:24-25

I've heard many church leaders try to guilt people into attending church using this verse saying if you miss a Sunday then you are "forsaking the assembly".  I believe the writer of Hebrews was referencing the importance of fellowship with like-minded believers more than attending a Sunday service.  Although attending church can absolutely aid us in our spiritual walk, it does not make us any more godly simply because we fill a pew once a week.  The purpose of meeting together is to motivate, love, support and encourage one another, wherever that may be.

Just something to think about . . .

Many Blessings,

  1. Amen!!! Good word Lisa!!
Thank you for giving some food for thought today!!

  2. I too have heard that passage of scripture used to guilt individuals into perfect church attendance.

  3. It is something to think about. I find going to church on the Sabbath Day fills my bucket with living water.
