God's Will or Ours?

“Where does light come from, and where does darkness go? Can you take each to its home?  Do you know how to get there?  But of course you know all this!  For you were born before it was all created, and you are so very experienced!  Job 38:19-21
We have a wrong view of God's justice.  We say there is a law of fairness or justice that is higher and more absolute than God, and we make it binding even for God.  God must act in response to that law in order to be fair.  But God himself is the standard of justice.  He uses his power according to his own moral perfection.  So whatever he does is fair and right, even if we don't understand it.

Job and his friends were struggling with this concept.  Job argued that he was being punished for no reason, and therefore, God was unfair.  His friends said that God punishes those who have sinned, so obviously Job had messed up somewhere.  Both of these views were based on human reasoning and understanding, so they weren't completely accurate.

Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God's dominion over the earth?
Job 38:33

We can't begin to think we know the complete will of God.  When we try to determine how God is going to think and move in a situation we are limiting His power; God is too big to be contained in a box of our understanding.

Many blessings,

  1. I thank Him that so much is beyond my understanding. When I stop trying to figure it all out is when I just rest in the truth that He has it all in His control.

  2. Hi Lisa - this is such a great post. They brought up this aspect of God's justice at church on Sunday. I agree with you that we cannot fathom God and His justice in any way shape or form. We have to just trust it.
    God bless
