Seek and Find

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worseShe had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Mark 5:25-28

This woman sought out Jesus.  She believed that if she could just find Him and touch Him, she would be healed.  Most of us are familiar with that aspect of the story.

During his message on Sunday, my husband brought up a different side of this account that I hadn't considered before.  Jesus, being fully God, knew that this woman was going to be in the crowd, and He knew that she desired to just touch His garment.  Jesus could have stopped and waited for her; He could have even gone to find her, but He didn't.  Jesus kept walking because He wanted to see if she would pursue Him.

God wants us to seek Him.
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.  Jeremiah 33:3
Seek the LORD while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.  Isaiah 55:6
Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.  1 Chronicles 16:11
His plan has always been for us to seek Him.

Not because He doesn't want to be found, but because He does.

God understands that the more we seek Him,
the more we find Him.

And the more we find Him, the more we love Him.

God is saying, "Here I am, come and find Me."

How far are you willing to go?

  1. Amen! Our hearts were in the same place this morning, Lisa. God wants us to seek Him and He is faithful when we do!

  2. Very true. It makes me think of the husband/wife relationship. We want our husband to continue to seek and pursue us. God wants us to continue to seek and pursue Him. The more we seek and find, the more we want!

  4. "My soul followeth hard after Thee..." (Ps 63:8).
I like that verse in the KJV because it conveys the passionate Christ-seeking heart reaching, stretching, straining after Him, like Paul talks about as his passion in Philippians.
I've been reading Philippians repeatedly (on purpose) lately, and slowly rereading A.W. Tozer's Pursuit of God. What you say here is so in tune with all that. Good thoughts. Thank you, and God bless.

    1. I do like the way the KJV says it, Sylvia. It's about a purposeful, passionate seeking after God.

  7. "The more we found Him, the more we love Him."

This is so true Lisa, so true and the more we long for Him....it is the feeling of hungering and fullness at the same time.

I also would like to thank you for stopping by Pondered Thoughts and blessing me with your comment and encouragement. All good things.

  8. Lisa,

I never thought of it like this before, I know God wants us to always pursue Him, but I never put together like that, that He purposely walked away from the woman who was bleeding to see of she would continue to follow Him. This is such an awesome post and so eye opening. Blessings to you Lisa.

  9. Hi Lisa,
I never really thought of that passage in scripture that way, but what you say is true. Thank you for sharing this insight with us. It is a wonderful reminder.
    Blessings,
    Ken

  10. I have read this passage a couple times and never thought of it that way. One of the great reasons I love fellowships (even online ones)...someone else may see something in the same passage that you never did and give you an entirely different perspective into God's actions or His Word. Wonderful :) May God bless you and keep you with Him :)

  11. Lisa - I have never thought of this passage from that perspective, but His word says we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart.

    Blessings,
    Joan
