The Christmas Story

If I mentioned reading the Christmas story, you would probably think of reading from Luke or Matthew, right?  But this morning while reading in Hebrews, I couldn't help but think of that blessed night when our Savior was born.

The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.  Hebrews 1:3

The sweet baby born to Mary was God's Holy Son.  And while Mary was holding Jesus in her arms, He was holding the world by the mighty power of His command.  How awesome is that!

Hebrews chapter 2, verse 11 tells us that Jesus and the ones He makes holy (us) have the same Father.

Because God's children are human beings--made of flesh and blood--the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.  Hebrews 2:14

Jesus became flesh, born as a baby, to die to break the power of sin and death.  Praise God!

Jesus became like us, flesh and blood, fully human,  "so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people."  Hebrews 2:17

That is why the angels sang on that Holy Night and that is why we praise Him today.

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Hebrews 13:15 ESV
