Full of Worms

Pride is so ugly.   The Bible warns that pride leads to a fall (Proverbs 16:18).  It can turn us into little monsters or leave us full of worms - literally.

After giving a speech, the people gave Herod Agrippa a great ovation, shouting, "It's the voice of a god, not of a man!" (Acts 12:22).  Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people's worship instead of giving the glory to God.  He was consumed with worms and died.  Not a pleasant picture!

Paul and Barnabas understood that all praise and glory belong to God alone.  After performing miracles in Lystra, the people decided that Paul and Barnabas must be gods.  They were going to offer sacrifices to the apostles, but Paul and Barnabas quickly stopped them, pointing the people to God as the source of all healing and salvation. (Acts 14:14)

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father.  James 1:17

In order to combat pride in our lives, we must acknowledge that every good thing in our lives is a gift from God. We count our blessings, not to draw attention to ourselves, but to turn all praise and glory to God, our Loving Father, the Giver of Life.

  1. I know the phrase "God is Good" gets thrown around a lot, but I truly want to acknowledge HIM in everything! This is the first phrase that Bella recently learned to write! She writes it all over everything! It makes me smile when I see it on a napkin or an old church bulletin! He is so very good to us, and my heart's desire is that everything in my life points straight to Him!

  2. Hi Lisa - great post. ALL praise and all glory is God's. I think the habit of thanks giving certainly helps put pride in its place.

  9. Great reminder Lisa! It can be easy to get wrapped up in "our" successes, but in the reality of things, all good comes from the Lord, and to Him be the Glory!

    Great list!
