Lest You Fall

Remember our history, friends, and be warned.
(The Israelites) all ate and drank identical food and drink, meals provided daily by God. They drank from the Rock, God's fountain for them that stayed with them wherever they were. And the Rock was Christ. But just experiencing God's wonder and grace didn't seem to mean much.

The same thing could happen to us
We must be on guard so that we never get caught up in wanting our own way as they did.  We must never try to get Christ to serve us instead of us serving him; we must be careful not to stir up discontent; discontent destroyed them.

These are all warning markers
written down so that we don't repeat their mistakes. We are just as capable of messing it up as they were. Don't be so naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate God-confidence.
1 Corinthians 10:1-12 (MSG)

I can't get these words out of my mind lately - Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.
 (1 Cor. 10:12 ESV)

The days are short and the Lord's returning is near.  We must stand firm - but we must make sure we are standing in God's strength and not our own.

Stand Firm

  1. Lisa, you are so right. None of us are exempt for the possibility of falling. And, if we begin to think we are...we have begun the descent. Thanks for this reminder to stand firm!

  2. Hi Lisa - I love it when someone says it like it is. Great post. I know that I must always be on my guard. I f I think I know it all, I'm about to fall! I love how you say, God-confidence and not self! Excellent

And, Lisa, thank you for linking up with me today. I really appreciate the support. I know if anyone comes here from there, they will be blessed.

  4. "The days are short and the Lord's returning is near. We must stand firm - but we must make sure we are standing in God's strength and not our own." True. I want to stand firm but I can't do it alone. Period. I need God.

  6. "We must never try to get Christ to serve us instead of us serving him;"

So true.... and I'm so guilty of doing it the other way around. Forgive me, Lord.

  9. If we think we are exempt, then become prideful, and He is not afraid to knock us down a notch or two and remind us we are NOT exempt from anything.
