You Are What You Dream ?

I haven't been sleeping well - again.  The problem this time has been my dreams - I've been having some crazy ones.

Saturday night my husband and I went out for our anniversary and we saw the movie Contagion.  It's about a new virus that kills 1-2% of the population.  So Saturday my restless night was filled with dreams about this virus and zombies, because zombies make it more exciting.  (smiles)

I've been playing Scrabble with my friends Eileen, Allison, and Phil.  I always lose because I have such a limited vocabulary, but it's fun to play and I figure it's got to be helping my brain in some way.  Last night my restless dreams were filled with letters and images of a scrabble board - seriously.

As I groggily got up this morning, thinking about these crazy dreams that were causing me to lose sleep, I had one of those God thoughts.  What would my night and dreams be like if I read the Bible right before going to sleep?  Would God's Word cause me to be restless all night or would I rest in peace?

You have probably heard the saying, "You are what you eat."   Perhaps it can also be said, You are what you dream.

What are your dreams saying about you?

  1. Well, Lisa, you and I have dreams on the brain this morning! Perhaps, it too much Scrabble?! But, I agree, I think what we focus on right before trying to fall asleep often determines whether it's peaceful or not. More often, I need to fix my thoughts on Him!

  2. I have the weirdest dreams ever. I think that is why I have never slept well. My dreams are very vivid and very active.

Today I am thankful for so much but mostly for the chance and money to get away and relax with family.

  3. I remember when I decided to stop watching really scary movies (I think the last one was The Ring 2?!) At night for some reason the images would pop into my head and I'd lose sleep. I think it's true, whatever you put in your head might be what you dream about. Reading the bible before bed is a great idea! But, a Scrabble dream... I think that'd be great :) Love your list Lisa... praising Him for the blessings in your life!

  4. My dreams are definitely affected by what I watch, read, hear, or do during the day. So reading my Bible before bed certainly affects what I dream about--in a good way, of course!
Praying you get a good night's sleep tonight!

  5. Hi Lisa - I love this post, we are what we dream. What is the last thing you put in your brain before you sleep? I would like to say something of God's word, but most often that is not true. think I will try to retrain my dreams. Great post
    God bless

  6. Congratulations on #261!

I wrote a whole chapter on my dreams and what I thought they were saying. It was during a hard time in my life and all my dreams were about tornadoes, wrecks and messes everywhere. Praise the Lord, I don't have thoses dreams anymore!

Reading the Bible before bedtime is a good idea. Sweet dreams! :)

  10. I have all kinds of dreams myself. I even have had God talk to me thru my dreams. I tend to have reoccuring themes in mine. I'll pray that your dreams will clam down.

  12. I woke up this morning thinking the same thing!!!! I was gonna write about it as well. I dreamed that we finally found another house to move into and it was haunted but I was the only one who saw the ghost for a while till others confirmed there was more than one. Oh that darn ghost has haunted me all day, really I can't get her blue dress out of my head. I know like others have said it has to do with stuff going on but still none the less they really get to me. I am like you with dreaming about what I am doing a lot of or the last thing I watched. Maybe I too should try the Bible before bed. I had been trying to figure out all day what God was trying to get through to me through the dreams or does God talk through dreams. So glad you posted this and allowed me to see another answer!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  14. Love me some Scrabble girl! Dreams can be so hard to get away from...you have to sleep at some point! Soak your mind in Scripture before you sleep..maybe that'll help.
    Love the list!

  15. Reading the Bible definitely helps me. I also put a praise CD in to play before going to bed. Turn it down low and usually don't make it through to the end. Before becoming a Christian I had nightmares almost every night. I don't always sleep well but GOD last certainly is the way to go!!
    Blessings and sweet dreams tonight...
