Relationship Defined

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!  Matthew 7:21-23
There are three questions we need to ask ourselves after reading this passage:

Does the way I live my life reflect to God and to others what I say I believe?  In other words, does my "say" equal my "do"?  James 2:14-16 tells us that our actions should show the change taking place in our hearts.

Do I believe I am on the right road just because of what I have done?  Good deeds alone are not enough.  In the above passage, Jesus was saying that acts without relationship are meaningless.

Do I know Jesus and does He know me?  How can we expect to spend eternity with someone we don't know?  The ultimate question is this:  Do I love Jesus Christ and does my life reflect that?

Jesus wants completely committed followers.  He doesn't believe in moderation; it's all or nothing with Him.

  1. "Do I love Jesus Christ and does my life reflect that?" It boils down to that, doesn't it? Love playing Scrabble with you too! And I love IHOP (or any) pancakes!

  3. Challenging questions but they cut to the truth - do I follow Jesus with both feet? Yes!

  4. I love this perspective, "Jesus was saying that acts without relationship are meaningless." Faith is dead without action and vice versa. Great reminder to make sure we are the real thing! I am pretty sure I was persecuted last week by people who are those crying Lord Lord, and Jesus is saying "I never knew you."

  5. I love this picture! In church leadership meetings we have talked about being Jesus with skin on. We want people to just look at us and see Christ.

Great list! I am thankful for:

    1) Food not being ruined when freezer and ice box gave out.
    2) An extra ice box in the basement, even though it leaks.
    3) Being forced to rethink if I really want that snack before walking all the way to the basement for the ice box.
    4) New Bible study with sweet sisters.
    5) New faces at church.
    6) Fellowship with church families.
    7) Husband willing and able to work and work available for him.
    8) Relaxing at home on a Sunday afternoon.

  7. Loved this. It brought to mind one of my favorite quotes:
“A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ, that a man should have to seek Him first to find her.” Maya Angelou

To be so hidden in Christ that all the world can see is HIM~

By the way, I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! the picture you chose for this post. I would love to hang it on my wall!

  11. Great encouragement Lisa! We all need to be sure that we not only focus our faith in worship, but also to live our lives as extensions of that belief.
