Joy - Really?

Today I'm linking up with The Gypsy Mama for 5 Minute Friday.

Today's prompt is: JOY

I've got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart.

What is joy?  Is it the same as happiness?  The Bible tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kind.  Is James saying that we are to be happy about our trials?

The Word also says that the joy of the Lord is our strength.  What does that mean?

After considering these two scriptures, I think that joy can be translated as peace.  We can have peace when we are facing trials because we know the testing of our faith develops perseverance and perseverance must finish it's work so we can be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (This is where memorizing James pays off). Knowing that my trials are developing something greater in my life does bring joy (peace.)

And we can say that our strength comes from being at peace with the Lord; from being in right relationship with Him.  The world may be falling apart around me, but I know that my God is in control and that He loves me.  That joy gives me the strength to carry on.

Many blessings,

  2. So true that joy gives us strength. Makes me think of "for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross." Great reflection. Thank you.

  4. It has been a long journey to finally realize Joy is Peace and that it can be found in the good and the bad in the loud and in the whisper. Thanks you for putting it so simply and again for being such a great teacher. Oh to have a cup of coffee with you, I could truly learn so much. Thank you for this new friendship we seem to be forming, I truly look forward to it daily.

  6. I really enjoyed reading your five minutes. I think happiness is wonderful but I feel joy is a little higher feeling that happiness. Anyway, I do think if we are happy or joyful we are more at peace.
Blessings to you for your thoughts! Keep on enjoying those moments of Joy!

  8. Lisa,

I think joy is one of those things that is often misinterpreted, we can have joy through the trials and the pain, we can be sad and still be joyful, having joy is truly a blessings from our heavenly Father. Lovely post Lisa!

    Blessings.
