I Have a Question

Is this welcoming?

These two baskets are hanging on my front porch.  Not only did I forget to water them, and so they died, but I also keep forgetting to take them down.  Not very inviting, is it?

As I was thinking about posting this picture this morning, just to be funny, God spoke to my heart.  These baskets of dead flowers give a bad impression.  It looks like we are uncaring people who don't want to be bothered.

Do we give the same impression?

Does our front porch (our face) look warm and inviting, or does our demeanor give the impression that we don't want to be bothered?

Today, as you are out in the world going about your business, ask yourself this question - Is God's love shining through me, drawing people to Jesus?

Just something to think about.

Many blessings,

  1. My two hanging baskets look almost that dead. But I am watering them twice a day. It is just so hot here.

This is a great post. So true. When we are not smiling or showing the JOY of Jesus, we are surely not welcoming. Thank you for this reminder!

  3. Funny enough Lisa, I have a "black thumb" and ALL the plants I've had end up looking like that in no time. LOL

Great reminder that part of letting people see God's Light in us starts with a smile on our face, and a gentle demeanor when we speak.

    Have a Blessed Day!

  5. Hi Lisa - great analogy. For a season there my face resembled your flowers but slowly but surely God's word has watered me back to a smiley person. I went to a friends tea party for her Bday today and laughed raucously with people I've only just met, then went grocery shopping and smiled at all those dead flower faces in the aisles. Some respond, some ignore. But it felt good.
Lovely post - ps, put some "can't be killed" plants up instead!
    God bless

  6. I probably needed this before I headed out today. I'm not in the best mood ever (coughing, runny nose, 2 fighting kids +the baby... all heading to 2 stores lol). But yeah, people around me know I go to church... they know I blog (about 'encouragement' none the less) if they see me all sadfaced and ready to snap... what will that do for my testimony? Thanks for this reminder.. I need to be a happy hanging basket... not a dead one ;)

  9. Hi Lisa,
Something to think about indeed. I am afraid too ofter we all fall into that category of not wanting to be bothered. I know I do.
Thank you for this reminder and God bless,
