I am Infected

Ok, be honest.  When you read the title, how many of you immediately thought of zombies?  Maybe I'm the only weird one (smiles), but that's exactly what I thought.  Perhaps I've watched one too many zombie movies.  In movies like these, the apocalypse starts with an infection that spreads throughout humanity, wiping out much of the population.  The infected walk around in filthy clothes, glimpses of  who they used to be.  Those who are left search feverishly for a cure, but one is rarely found.  Not the kind of infection I want to get.

But the Bible says that we are all infected.

We are all infected and impure with sin.
When we display our righteous deeds,
they are nothing but filthy rags.
Isaiah 64:6

Like those creatures in the zombie movies, our infection makes us do things we don't want to do. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. (Rom. 7:15)  I don't want to be ugly and hateful (well, I have to admit that sometimes I do want to be that way, but that's the topic for another post).  I don't want to be selfish and lazy.  I have a desire to do good, but I can't carry it out.

We are infected - is there a cure?

Yes!  Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Rom. 7:25)

Jesus' blood contains the cure for our infection.  Because of His death on the cross, we are no longer condemned to death.  His blood brings healing from our curse.

YOU ARE FREE!

Many blessings,

  1. Oh my Lisa, do I know how you feel, there are times when I don't always want to do the right thing, or say the right thing, sometimes I just want to behave ugly, but ugly spreads like an infection. I have to remind myself that Jesus did not die on the cross and shed His blood for me to behave badly, as much as I want to sometimes.

    Blessings Lisa.

  2. Hi Lisa - I like how you admit to wanting to do wrong sometimes. I think we all can relate. I like the analogy. Don't like zombie movies myself but hear enough of them as my daughter loves them urgh!
    God bless

  3. Zombies huh... Thank goodness communion doesn't involve eating brains! ;-)

This is a wonderful analogy Lisa, and one I hadn't thought of before. The blood of Christ surely did free us from the bonds of sin, and cured us at our most fundamental level.

    Great post!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  6. I pictured being infected from a disease, like HIV, not zombies when I read your title. And yes, praise God, we are healed! Only through Christ's blood. Visiting from Soli Deo Gloria.

  7. Gotta confess, I thought you'd been infested with bedbugs or something because I read infested not infected :)
Thank God either way there is a cure through Him!

  9. First, I wand to say: Ezekiel 37:7-8 - Zombies are biblical. :) Win!

Second, Praise God that He sent His Son for the ultimate cure. Epic win!

  10. I've felt that desire to be mean sometimes, too. Yuck! But, in all things, there is redemption and a God who saves us from that yuckiness!
