5 Minute Friday and a Giveaway

I'm linking up with The Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday.

5 Minute Friday -  Grateful

When I saw that the word for today was grateful I thought this was going to be easy.  I can write for five minutes about gratitude, yet I find that I am drawing a blank.  Maybe that's because I haven't had my morning coffee yet.

I do have so much to be grateful for; God has blessed me.  So why do I sometimes find myself wishing for more?  I think this is a dangerous place to live.  If we aren't really thankful for what we have, we will live feeling discontent.  And discontentment breeds jealousy, anger, and greed.  Madam Blueberry from VeggieTales certainly had it right - a thankful heart is a happy heart.

I've said many times before that it's hard to have a "poor me" attitude when you are counting your blessings.  We need to acknowledge the gifts God has given us and be truly grateful.  He always provides.  It may not be in the way or timing that we want, but He is faithful.  And for that I am grateful.

Giveaway!
I'm so excited to be hosting my very first giveaway.  One lucky winner will receive this necklace from Chunky Junk Jewelry.  The contest runs today through 7:00 pm CST  Thursday, July 14, and the winner will be announced Friday morning, July 15.

I recently purchased some of this jewelry because not only are the pieces  beautiful and unique, but my money goes to support this valuable ministry.  Now here's the fun part -

  1. Veggie Tales has some great lessons for both kids and grown-ups, huh?!

Thanks for reminding me that it's hard to cry 'poor me' when I'm thanking God for my blessings. Visiting from the Gypsy Mama!

  3. Wow, I've been in Internet disconnect, so this is the first time I'm seeing your new look and I love it! I also couldn't agree more... counting my blessings is the super-natural repellent to my discontent. What a fun give-away too! Going to check it out on FB.

  7. I think gratefulness and contentment go hand in hand, and I'm often not grateful because I'm not content. Then I remind myself that the Scripture we all like to quote, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" is actually in the context of being content in every circumstance. I CAN be content (and therefore, grateful) when I acknowledge my weakness and seek His strength to live a contented and grateful life.

    Thank you for this blog!

  8. Pretty necklace I'm more of a simple necklace type person though ;) Every time I take time to stop and think about everything God has done and is doing for me my doubt and discontent have a way of disappearing. It's really hard to have a bad attitude and doubt towards God when I remember everything He's doing! Thanks for this great post!

  9. Hi Lisa - My mother-in-law reckons she has the gift of contentment. I suppose it is a gift when you consider to be content implies you wont desire what others have or have the 'poor me' attitude. I think it is as you say, a thankful heart is a happy heart and although my girls are teenagers now, veggie tales are still awesome!
God bless and have a great weekend

  10. I'm with you Lisa, it's hard to have a "poor me" attitude while counting the Blessings that God bestows on us every day! I've found that writing my "Thankful Thursday" list gives me exactly that perspective, and serves to recharge me at the same time. :-)

The necklace looks lovely, and while it certainly wouldn't look right on me (LOL), my wife would certainly love it. Count me in please!

    Have a Blessed Weekend!!

  12. Ah, the wisdom of the Veggies...why can't we be content with what we have? We have so much more than most people...grateful is what we should be, no matter what our lot in life!
