The Work in Grace

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--
and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--
Ephesians 2:8

I just bought you a new car.  It's all yours.  You've done nothing to deserve it and I don't owe you anything.  But because I love you, I wanted to buy it for you.  I have the keys and the title right here.  It's your gift.

As Christians, we are familiar with the scripture above.  Because of God's amazing grace, there is nothing we have to do to earn salvation.  It is a free gift from a Loving God.  But there is something we have to do.  Just like the illustration above, the gift is meaningless if we don't accept it.

If I give you a new car, you need to accept the title, take the keys, get in the car and enjoy it.  So it is with God's grace.  There is nothing we have to do or could ever do to earn His grace; the only "work" we have to do is to accept it and walk in it.

Debi wrote a great post on grace at Woman to Woman Ministries today.  I encourage you to hop over and read it.  Then do the work - accept what God has freely given you.

  1. I enjoyed Debi's post today too. Accepting grace is often the most difficult part of our walk with Christ. Accepting if for ourselves and extending it others.

  2. Thank you Lisa for sharing. I pray someone who has not received the free gift will read and receive.

  3. Thank you Father for the gift that You have given to us. You want nothing from us in return but our love and devotion to You.

  4. Great point Lisa!

It sounds easy to accept such a magnanimous gift, but as Eileen noted it can be one of the most difficult parts of our walk with Christ.

    Great post!

    Have a Blessed Day!

  5. I don't deserve it, but I am so thankful for HIs grace
