It's Me

The phone rings and you answer to hear, "Hi, it's me."   Those words can only be spoken by someone we know well.  If a stranger or acquaintance were to call and identify themselves by saying, "it's me", we probably wouldn't have any idea who was calling.  But a close friend can say, "it's me".  We know immediately who it is because we are familiar with the voice.

Eli was a priest of God, yet it seems he was unfamiliar with God's voice.  When God called to the boy Samuel, Eli didn't recognize that it was God calling. (1 Sam.4-7)   I'm sure Eli didn't hear the voice as it called out to Samuel, but as a priest, shouldn't he have recognized that it was God calling?

Are you familiar with God's voice?  When He calls does He have to identify himself or will "it's me" work?  I want to be so close to God that I immediately recognize His voice when He speaks.  I want to be able to say, "I know Him."

Do you have an "it's me" relationship with God?

  4. I am learning more each day to recognize God's voice. I want to know when He is speaking to me, whether it is a loud voice or gentle whisper.

  5. This goes right along with the bible study we are doing, Discerning the Voice of God. I must say that right now, I'd have to ask, "Who is this" if He spoke to me. I am seeking Him and His voice diligently and I know He will grant me the ability to recognize Him

  6. It's being with Him daily, just like with our family to recognize that voice. I think I do now, but it took time and learning to listen. I hope I don't ever miss anything He wants to say to me!
