The Tale of Two Houses

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house;
yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.  Matthew 7:24-25

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.  The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.  Matthew 7:26-27

Where is your house built?

Memorizing James
If you are taking part in the challenge to memorize the entire book of James this year, you will need to memorize two verses each week. This week's verses are:
James 1:17-18
17.  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18.  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruit of all he created.

  1. Short and to the point! When I think of these scriptures, I think of the times our family has gone to the beach. As we are walking/playing on the beach, I will stand there and let the surf wash over my feet...over and over again. What happens is that the sand begins to gather around my feet. After some time, a 'larger' wave will come in to shore. As it does, the sand all around my feet begins to shift. If I'm not careful, I will fall flat on my face! That comparison to these scriptures always keeps me in focus...to build my house on the Rock!!! Thank you for the reminder today!

  3. I want to be the house that doesn't fall when a storm comes. That lives out the Word not just reads it and moves on. God and I are working on this daily.

  4. Hearing the words and then putting them into practice. That is something I've been convicted of. God's been showing me that it isn't enough to read His Word but to live it out loud like I really mean it!Your encouraging words were such a blessing to me this week!:)

  5. This is a great post. I want my house built on a very solid foundation. I like what Debi said, if a person thinks about it that is exactly what happens to a house if it is built without the foundation of the Lord. Thanks for the reminder and blessings to you.

  6. Not just hearing the word...but doing what it says. I desire to have a firm foundation and this takes obedience and putting His Word into practice every day.

  7. Today I was reading in John:

    John 8:47 NKJV
    He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God."

    Blessings,
    Ken
