Standing on the Promises

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?  No, in all these things, we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS through him we loved us.  Romans 8:35, 37

As I said in yesterday's post, we have an enemy who loves to whispers little lies to us.  The problem is that too many Christians are believing these lies and are living in defeat.  We don't fully understand or recognize who we are in Christ.

In Christ, we are a new creation.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
2 Corinithins 5:17
We need to remember that we are not the person we used to be.  The old has gone.  Jesus no longer remembers who you used to be; He just sees you as His child.  So when satan tries to bring up your past, just remind him that it's forgotten.

In Christ, we are free from condemnation
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."  Romans 8:1
Jesus does not condemn us, so why do we allow satan to do so?

In Christ, we are children of God
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!"
We are not slaves or enemies of God.  He has called us His children.  We are children of the King!

In Christ, we always triumph
"In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade."  2 Corinthians 2:14  The Message
The enemy wants to make us think that we are defeated, but the Word says that we are victorious.  We are on the winning side.

In Christ, we are righteous, holy and redeemed.
"It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - this is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption."  1 Corinthians 1:30

When God looks at us, He sees us through the blood of Jesus.  We are righteous, because He is righteous.

In Christ, we have purpose
"Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do:  forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."  Philippians 3:13-14
God created us for a purpose, and He has a plan for our lives.  We are not wandering around aimlessly.  We are not alone.

In Christ, we have eternal hope
"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God ... And so we will be with the Lord forever."
1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17
Our hope is in the Lord and He will not disappoint.  We have a future we can look forward to.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then these promises are for YOU!!  They are not just for other Christians, they are for YOU!!!

Don't let satan keep you living in defeat.  Instead, live standing on the promises of God.

Memorizing James
If you are taking part in the challenge to memorize the entire book of James this year, you will need to memorize two verses each week. This week's verses are:
James 1:17-18
17.  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

18.  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruit of all he created.

  1. Girl, I think you are preaching right to me lately! (Smiles) I love your comment "So when satan tries to bring up your past, just remind him that it's forgotten." I am going to start using this against that stinkin' devil! Thanks for this reminder!

  2. Redemption, hope, purpose, triumph...awesome words for the day! When we sin and seek forgiveness it is so comforting to know that God forgets it like it never happened. Our slate wiped clean. We are the only ones who remember it, I think! Satan brings it up and we blow it out of proportion! Awesome post! Love how we are on the same page this week my friend!

I especially like your statement : "When God looks at us, He sees us through the blood of Jesus. We are righteous, because He is righteous." Beautifully said.

I'll take God's Promises over satan's lies every time!

  6. Thank you so much for this post. I love what you said at the end about not allowing Satan to make you live in defeat. I posted about a similar struggle last week - it seems when things are going great and you're full of praise, the enemy strikes with negative thoughts and tries to steal our joy. But in Jesus, our joy is never lost! Praise God :)

  7. Great site! Another great post! Thanks for challenging me in so many ways through your blog. It can be a challenge at times to read the word the way God commands us. However we need to be obedient to it. Your favorite books has given me some good reads as well. If I cand make a suggestion read the book Sun Stands Still. Just finished it and the book really challenges you.
